Happy Cats and Happy Owners

Hi, I'm Emma

Happy cats are my speciality.

I'm an experienced in-home cat sitter based in North Yorkshire. Cats are the love of my life – I've adored our furry, purry friends ever since I was six years old.

My kitty-sitting approach is simple. I put your cat's happiness and welfare above all else while treating your home like it's my own.

Leaving cats at home is never easy. But when you work with me, I'll go above and beyond to make them feel comfortable and well-looked-after. I'll get to know their unique needs, quirks and personalities – and I'll work overtime to gain their trust.

Does your cat need a cuddle buddy while you go on holiday? Are you looking for long-term cat sitting while you work a nine-to-five? Perhaps you only need a cat sitter every other day?

Let's talk. I promise you'll return to a happy cat, every time.

  • I'm a qualified cat behaviourist: they don't call me the 'cat whisperer' for nothing!

  • I'll develop a real bond with your cat: because I want to, not just because it's my job.

  • I go above and beyond: does your cat need medication? Special treatment? Extra cuddles? Just let me know and I'll make it happen.

I'll get back to you ASAP to arrange a free meet-up.

We'll meet in person

I like to meet all my kitty customers before I start.

Don't worry – your four-legged friend is going to have the best time.

I'll drop in once or twice a day to feed them and give them tonnes of cuddles (if that's their thing).

Need something special?

That's what I'm here for.

Your house is in capable hands. When you come back home, I want you to feel like you've never been away.

This means giving your cat tonnes of love and attention, of course. But it also means doing those odd jobs and chores – the kinds of things you'd worry about if I wasn't there to help.

I've handled all sorts of these 'little extras' over the years. I've fed birds and garden wildlife. I've kept plants happy and watered. I've taken out rubbish and recycling bins. You name it.

Got a special request? Let me know – if it's doable, I'll do it.

Frequently asked questions

  • Can you look after timid or nervous cats?

Yes! In fact, it's kind of my superpower. One customer even called me the 'cat whisperer' because I forged such a strong bond with her notoriously nervy kitty.

Here's the thing: cats are complicated creatures. You can't go straight in with cuddles and coos. That might work for particularly sociable felines, but not for an anxious cat.

That's why I'll never be the 'feed-and-go' kind of cat sitter. Timid cats need extra patience and care if you're going to gain their trust. And as a qualified cat behaviourist, I know the signs and signals that say 'I'm warming to you' or 'go away, I need some space'.

This is why I like to meet cats before I start work. It gives me a chance to learn their temperament and gauge the approach I should take.

One thing's for sure: no two cats are ever the same. But I'll come prepared with a kitty kit, full of toys and gadgets that give them the best chance of chilling out.

I've even been known to play music that's specially composed to help cats calm down. Very Zen!

  • Can you administer medication?

Yes. I've administered medication more times than I can count, both as a cat sitter and while working at the Hyperthyroid Cat Centre in Wetherby.

All I ask is that you leave careful, clear instructions. Let me know the dosages and times and I'll follow them to the letter.

  • Can you look after a diabetic cat?

Yes. I'm a veterinary school graduate and worked for two years at the Hyperthyroid Cat Centre in Wetherby. I have plenty of experience looking after cats with special dietary or medical needs.

Before I start, I'll make sure I have clear instructions regarding diet, medication and special care procedures.

  • Why use an in-home cat sitter rather than a cattery?

I don't want to pour scorn on catteries. If they make sure their cats are healthy and well-fed, that's a plus in my book.

The problem isn't the catteries – it's how cats' brains work.

See, cats are extremely sensitive animals. Their sense of well-being is closely tied to their environment and the people and animals who share it. In other words, their home is their safe space.

Catteries keep your cat fed and watered, but they ignore its complex social needs. They take your cat out of its safe space and place it in a world of unfamiliar odours, strange voices and – worst of all – other cats. It can be extremely stressful, especially for naturally anxious kitties.

Using an in-home cat sitter avoids this stress. It keeps your cat in its cosy, familiar environment and maintains a semblance of routine. And believe me – cats love routine.

Sure, your cats might be a little nervous when a new person enters their home – but I'll soon take care of that!

  • What do you need from me?

All I need is a spare key and any special instructions regarding care, diet or medication. I'll make sure we cover everything in our free meet-up before I start work.
